＊ジャックリン・バグリジの作品「サスペンデッド・ウーマン」をハートスクールのダンス科のダンサーに教えにいきます。この作品はSPと一緒に踊ったことのある作品で、クリエーションに私たちも参加しています。

Look back at 2021---
A lot happened in 2021 even though we are still in pandemic, and in-person classes started after Summer.

２０２１年を振り返ってみると・・・
そしてNuVu Festivalの開催をぜひ今年と思い、今スケジュールの調整中です。

Highlight of this year:
*Went to Belgrade, Serbia and taught 3 day workshop
One class for dancers, and the other for actors/singers
*Filmed Graham technique Level 2 (now in editing)
*Went to Berlin, Germany & Amsterdam - Dance On Ensemble
Performed Martha's Deep Song
and Merce Cunningham's Berlin Story & Amsterdam Story
*Created & Performed works for "Tokyo to NY" Music concert

*Hartt Dances - performances went really beautifully and we are very proud of them!

セルビアのベオグラードに１週間、ベルリンとアムステルダムにDance On Ensembleの仕事で行き、マーサの「ディープソング」そしてカニングハムの作品を踊ってきました。グラハムテクニックのレベル２の撮影を３回に分け行うことができました。ほとんどオンラインで、リハーサルをして、最後の１週間対面でのリハーサル、撮影となりました。「キャビネットの中の女」という映画の撮影も！これはまた終わっていませんので、２０２２年に入り続くこととなります。

クラリネット奏者のトーマス・ピアシーの「東京からNY」というコンサートにて、ジョン・ケージ、湯浅譲二、ヤス・ランカスターの作品に踊りをつけさせていただきました。ケージの作品は彼のコンセプトをもとに、湯浅の作品はソリチュードというタイトルから、そしてランカスターの作品は都会の街を彷徨う感じを！

The Hartt School Dance is one of the Top 20 BFA Dance Programs for 2020-21!!!
ハートスクールのダンス科は昨年に続き、今年もベストプログラムに選ばれました。春と秋の公演は両方とも素晴らしい出来で、ライブストリーミングもあり、たくさんの方に見ていただくことができました。

Stephen's back surgery went well and he is pain-less!!! and our building community is still very strong. Ladies club is on the roof, dancing @my best and Rooftop @9 plus 7 mins workout!!! 🏋️‍♀️ if it's not raining/snowing or too cold! We expanded our rooftop garden a little bit more and made basil oils, basil & garlic oils!!!

SPの腰の手術もうまく行き今は痛みはないとのこと！その代わり運動は忘れてはいけません！！！

このアパートのビルの女性たちは昨年から続いて屋上にて毎朝のエクササイズダンスを続けております。コミュニティーは素晴らしいです。屋上ガーデンは今年もやり、バジルはたくさん取れて、オイルを作ったり楽しみました。

Stephen's mom went over the other side of the rainbow. We miss her very much... however we welcome a beautiful girl to our nephew's family and she is the cutest one!!!
Life is not easy sometimes, but it gives many beautiful things/purposes. No matter what happens, life goes on. New day, new year will arrive.

今年はSPのお母さんが亡くなりました。とても悲しいことでした。そしてそのすぐ後に、甥っ子夫婦のところに可愛い女の子が生まれました。

Throughout the year, I taught online classes for dancers in Japan. We started last year, and those dedicated dancers in Japan, they learn and adopt and they get better! I was bit worried how this online classes give but I see progress. AMAZING!!! 😍

昨年から始めた日本向けオンラインクラス。オンラインでどのくらい伝えることができるのだろうか、と模索しましたが、皆がどんどんうまくなっていく様子を見て本当にびっくり、そして嬉しいです。まだまだ続けていきます！！！

We keep exploring, try new recipes, (sometimes terrible outcome...🤣 ), fermentation project is still happening, cooking, sewing, creating something new - gives us energy!!!
まだまだ色々興味のあることがたくさんあり、一つづつやっていこうと思っています。発酵食、料理、裁縫、色々作るという行為が好きです！！！

Our roommate, Karin Fukumi gave a beautiful performance on my birthday. She played the first movement of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No.2 with the Hunter Symphony Orchestra. Karin was so relaxed ( I don't know how can she be that relaxed... i would be too nervous as you know!) and powerful!!!

私の昔のルームメイトのお嬢さんで、今うちのルームメイトの福見果林さんがハンター大学を卒業、ピアノコンチェルトコンペティションで優勝。いつコンサートになるかがパンデミックでわからなかったのですが、今年その公演が実現。１２月１日の私の誕生日の一番嬉しいプレゼントでした。その演奏はYouTubeにありますので、ぜひ！！！

One more thing!! Stephen and I celebrated our 20th year together! Love, respect and trust this person so much!!! Thank you Stephen for put up with me!!!

そして２０２１年は私たちの結婚２０周年でした。この写真を見ると「あぁ〜若かった！」と思いますが、色々やってきた２０年、これからの２０年もまだまだ色々とやっていきますので、皆さん、ぜひ応援してくださいね！！！

Wow we have few more weeks to go in this year. 2021 is passing really fast.

Right now, I am in Belgrade, Serbia. Rain and Snow! but beautiful!

I am here for 3 day workshop at the National Theater of Serbia.

Teaching 2 classes - for dancers and for actors/singers.

今週末は忙しかったです。クリフトンの絵の展示、ジャニスのソロの作品、そしてハートスクールのコンサートでした。

There are many other in-person performances/exhibitions started.

So this feels NEW normal.

I am still very careful about attending theater performances.

やっと観客を入れての公演が始まりましたが、まだかなり気をつけて劇場に足を運んでいます。

たくさんの人が集まるので、毎日は行かないようにしています。

Clifton is a lighting designer. He is the ONE - best one!!!

His lighting makes and gives so much to the work.

He creates choreographers vision into the reality.

クリフトンは照明家です。彼の照明は一番好き。彼は踊りを踊り以上のものにしてくれます。

その彼が今はまり、集中しているのがオイルペインティング。

Clifton Taylor is a great lighting designer. and now he is a artist!

Well, Lighting designer is an artist but he now oil paints!!!

Of course his colors are so beautiful!!! I love Clifton!!!

He is a great human being!!!

And one and only Maxine Glorsky, who I met when I started to dance

professionally in NY back in early 80's, and she pushed me to start

making my own work/project.

I thank you Max for being that person to push me!!!

and Stephen too... I have few pushers in my life...

I went to see Janis Brenner's Inheritance: A Litany - solo woman's work

at the National Arts Club. This work, universary touch everyone.

If. you have chance to see, don't miss it!!!

ジャニスのソロの作品はご両親が亡くなった後に、遺品を片付けていて

自分の中でご両親との思い出、何を受け継いだのか、

そして切り離していくことをこの作品にて表現。

I started my solo concert series with the same kind of idea.

But my case was - I have to go thru my dance training, bring my ancestors,

and show little bit of my own work, later I am hoping to shift toward more of my work.

I need to go thru this to cleanse myself.

Janis uses her dance and voice to express, going thru her own memory.

Sometimes I am sure it is painful but sometimes it fullfill your love.

It is personal but universal.

私のソロ公演の趣向（意味？）と同じような感じ。

私は踊りだけですが、メレディス・モンクやニコライダンスカンパニーに居ただけあって、

色々なメディアを混ぜてのこの作品、見ていて笑いが出たり、涙が出たり。。。

素敵な作品。

was this weekend. I watched Thursday streaming, and in-person performances on Saturday!These are few from screenshots of streaming.

The Hartt School Dance Division.

Each year, dancers are getting better - well it's true.

All of them were taking chances, not holding back, step big and work beyond.

That is so un-usual. It's hard to do but they are doing it!!!

そしてハートスクールダンス科の秋のコンサート。

毎年、どんどん良くなるこのコンサート、今回もというか、今回はまたまたレベルアップ。

プロのカンパニーの公演といってもおかしくない。

I met Honoka Masuyama beginning of this semester. She is from Tokyo, Japan and she sometimes accompanies our modern classes at dance department!

増山穂香さんは今年の秋からハートスクールの大学院生。

時々、ダンス科のクラスの伴奏もしてもらっています。彼女がケージの作品を演奏しました。

Hilda Morales re-staged/arranged Excerpt from La Bayadere.

Hilda danced with ABT and Pennsylvania ballet and others.

She worked with Balanchine, Anthony Tudor and many important ballet

choreographers. Amazing dancer- I remember her from ABT!!!

This type of work is so important for any dancers - team work, using of fabric as a prop, forming lines and moving in and out..
.私がこちらにきてすぐの頃、ABT（アメリカンバレエシアター）にはたくさんのスターがいました。ヒルダもその一人。その彼女がハートスクールのダンス科にて教えています。その彼女からバレエを習えるダンサーたちは羨ましすぎる！！！腕の使い方や首の角度、そして踊りに表現方法など、やはり目で見ることも大事！！！コールドバレエの素晴らしいところはチームワークを養えるところ。ラインを作ったり、一緒に動くこと、そしてこの作品ではシルクの布を使うこと。ただ布切れではなく、自分のパートナーとしての布にしていくこと。大きなカンパニーに入らなければ体験できないことばかり。それがバレエであり、モダンであり、マスターと呼ばれる人たちの素晴らしい作品に触れるということが学生の時にやらなくては、いつやる！！というのもとても大事。羨ましすぎます。。。

José Limón's There is a Time. Composed by Norman Dello Joio. Staged by Nina Watt.
I remember this work by Limón company performing and also when Stephen was at the Juilliard, he set some parts, particulary what I love - A time to be born, and a time to die, a time to speak out those sections. "Fall and recovery" of Limón's significant technique, vastness of man, space around it - those are some images that I still see it in my mind. I so wish to go back to 80's to see Stephen dancing this works...
Beautiful thing about many aspect of LIFE is portrait in this work. And BEAUTIFUL music by Norman Dello Joio. He also composed "Seraphic Dialogue" and " Division of Angels" for Martha Graham and I could hear it in his music and all instrument sing harmoniously!!!
ホゼ・リモンの作品　There is a Timeは人生の色々な場面を表現した作品。季節、誕生、死、植え付け、収穫、殺す、癒し、口をつぐむ、話をする、嘆く、笑う、踊る、抱擁、怒り、戦争、そして愛する、平和の時。。。といった時をそれぞれのセクションで表現する。この作品をリモンカンパニーで見たり、いくつかのパートをSPがジュリアードで教えている時に生徒に教えたのを見たことがあるが、SPがカンパニーに居た時に踊っていたので、教えてもらったダンサーは色々な感情を表現することを教わり、素晴らしかったのを思い出した。ハートスクールではSPはリモンの作品を教えないので、そこはとても残念・・・SPが若い時の踊りを見たかったなぁといつも思っている。。。

このほかに２つの世界初演作品も！！！写真がないのがとても残念。ハートフォードバレエにて踊っていたデボラ・ライダー新作はとてもキュートな作品、そしてコンテンポラリーダンスを教えているケイティー・スティビンソンーノレの新作はテンポが早く、そして動きが軽快！

Yukimi and Tomi-san visiting NYC and The Hartt School Dance Division is special for Stephen and I. Yukimi and I lived at our 15th Street apartment for a long time in 80's! She became my sister. She moved to Atlanta, GA to dance with Rotaru Ballet and she and her husband had a Japanese restaurant "I Love Sushi" almost for 25 years. Recently they closed their business, which they were running 7 days a week. So finally they could travel!!!
私の妹分のゆきみちゃんが旦那様とニューヨークに来ています。アトランタにてバレエのカンパニーで踊り、旦那様とは”I Love Sushi”というレストランを２５年やり、今年閉めました。週７日働いていたので、やめてようやく旅行ができるようになった！！！　

一緒にハートフォードまで来て、ハートダンスを見てもらいました！！！

So this weekend was very special weekend for me.

I feel kind of normal...

Hartt From Heart Dancers and faculty members made this video as soon as this pandemic lock down started. Dancers initiated this project and edited by them too! We all were facing the same thing, and so wanting to share the feeling. We are in it too!!! Dancers are so eager to come back and they kept their promise and clean studio every time they have class. Stephen was constantly in research of finding what do we have to do, what will help for them to have live classes, and he talked to many of them, their parents, our colleagues and colleagues in professional field everyday 24/7.
